#11184 1/6 Daguerreotype, adorable little girl in a tinted blue dress
Nice sixth plate (2.75" by 3.25") daguerreotype of an adorable little girl in a tinted blue dress, tinting also to the carpet or tablecloth she is standing on. Actually I believe she was standing on a table. Obviously she was a little shy and nervous as she moved her body somewhat during the exposure but her pretty little face and head are fairly sharp. She appears to be holding something in her hands or it maybe just movement of her hands. Housed in a nice but worn full case with a crude spine repair.
CONDITION: the re-silvered plate is in excellent condition, there is one little spot on the top of her ear on the left. A few light brown spots on her dress. The white speck near her ear on the right and most of the others white specks are on the glass or from the scan. There is a lot of daguerreian frosting in the dark areas of the background. One stray horizontal buffing line in the right background and a couple of teeny lines to the right of her head seen at some viewing angles. New glass and an archival P90 seal.
(NOTE: re-silvered refers to a process done by the daguerreotypist to add an extra layer of silver to the plate before the image was exposed. This is generally believed to have been done to achieve a superior plate surface, hence a better quality daguerreotype.)
