#11192 Half Plate Daguerreotype, group of seven people
Half plate (4.25" by 5.5") daguerreotype of a group of seven people possibly all siblings. The image is ever so slightly low in contrast. Housed in a full Boston style black push-button case. The case does have wear, several cracked areas, the push-button is missing and the area around it has some damage.
CONDITION: the re-silvered plate is in very good condition with a light halo which follows the mat perimeter. I have replaced the glass and sealed the package with Filmoplast P90 and archival polyester film. (NOTE: re-silvered refers to a process some daguerreotypists did to add an extra layer of silver to the plate before buffing and exposing the image. This is generally believed to have been done to achieve a superior plate surface, hence a better quality daguerreotype.)
