#11223 1/6 Daguerreotype, young man wearing a wheel type cap
Sixth plate (2.75" by 3.25") daguerreotype of a young man wearing a wheel type cap, tie and white shirt which is solarized. Casual pose sitting sideways in a chair. He has a tie pin and ring which have been gilded. The case pad is embossed with the name of the daguerreotypist but the name and city have been rubbed out? I am quite sure it reads “JOHNSTON ARTIST; SKY LIGHT; DAGUERREIAN; ROOMS; LANCASTER; PA as noted in “Craig’s Daguerreian Registry” for Charles M. Johnston. I also found a pad with the same design on the internet. Housed in a full case with some wear, mismatched sides and a leather spine repair.
CONDITION: The double-silvered plate is in excellent condition. I have resealed the plate with a new glass, Filmoplast P90 and archival polyester film.
