#11205 1/6 Daguerreotype, militia or possibly a naval man with flint lock pistol
Mid 1840’s sixth plate (2.75" by 3.25") daguerreotype of militia or possibly a naval man wearing a double breasted frock type jacket. Of high interest is the flint lock pistol he is holding across his lap. Housed in a full case with slight wear and a leather spine repair. The hook clasps are present and function as expected.
CONDITION: The plate is in good condition with light areas or stains on the plate. One notch in the background above his shoulder on the right. Multiple mat abrasions and some tarnish. There is remaining red wax on the back which was probably used for holding the plate during the buffing process which is consist for early to mid-1840’s dags. I have resealed the plate with a new glass, Filmoplast P90 and archival polyester film.
