#11299 Half Plate Daguerreotype, four young gentleman in a friendly pose
Excellent Half Plate (4.25" by 5.50") Daguerreotype of four young gentleman in a friendly pose. The mat is stamped with the photographer name of “BURNHAM.” There are 4 Burnhams from Maine listed by "Craig's Daguerreian Registry." Half plate group dags are hard to find especially in this condition, which is excellent with one tarnish spot to the right of the gent on the right. The plate retains its original seal. There is some fogging on the underside of the glass on the right side following the mat from the tarnish spot down to the bottom of the mat. The image would benefit from a new glass and reseal; I will reseal the image if the buyer so chooses. Housed in a full case with wear on the closure side. The case sides have two different motifs but are original to each other. I have applied a leather spine repair. The two hook closures work fine and the case closes fine.
