#P1218 1/6 Daguerreotype, teenager by the African American daguerreotypist Augustus Washington
Sixth plate (2.75" by 3.25") daguerreotype of teenage gentleman. He is very well dressed and looks so sophisticated. He is holding what looks to be a large velvet image case. Produced by the now famous African American daguerreotypist Augustus Washington. Augustus Washington’s gallery is imprinted on the velvet pad. “WASHINGTON GALLERY 136 Main St. Hartford Conn.” The same table and books can be seen in other dags by Washington on several Augustus Washington related sites on the Internet. Housed in an excellent case with different front and back covers BUT has an intact original spine.
CONDITION: the plate is in very good to excellent condition with some tarnish, a small brown spot not well seen in the scan to the left and just a little above his head. Two marks on the plate in the upper right backdrop and one small mold spider above his shoulder on the right. I resealed the dag with a new glass and Filmoplast P90.
